An Evening of Persian Classic Music

Aryan Rahmanian:

Aryan Rahmanian was born in 1976 in the province of Khorasan, eastern Iran. He started singing at the age of nine, under the supervision of his father. At the age of fourteen, Aryan began studying the traditional classical repertoire of Persian music known as Radif. Later he started learning the Tar ,one of the main Iranian instruments .He studied Persian Classical Music (Tar and Vocal) with the most famous masters of Persian classical music including Mohammad Reza Lotfi, Nasrollah Nasehpoor, Mohsen Keramati and Mansur Sinaki.

Interested in both music and philosophy , Aryan continued his education in History, Philosophy and Ethnomusicology at the University of California, Berkeley.

Aryan activities are in both fields of academic research and live music performance. He published two books about philosophy of music, Western Philosophers and Music, and Eastern Philosophers and Music. Each book explains the philosophers’ ideas about music. Aryan also published a Comprehensive Commentary of Jame al—alhan (14 century Near Eastern treatise musical theory), which is an encyclopedia of Middle Eastern Classical Music. Aryan has performed widely throughout the world. He gave various concerts and participated in many international music festivals in the United States, Europe, Turkey, India, United Arab Emirates, and Iran.

Aryan also produced several music CDs including Baharan (the springs), The Voice of the East, Jane Jan (the Soul of the souls), Ahuye Man (my deer), and the Remembering Your Name.

Shima Shahmohammadi:

She was born in 1983 in Tehran, Iran. She earned B.A in playing Kamancheh and M.A in playing Qeychak from Art University of Tehran. She is actually lecturer and instructor at the University of Applied Science and Technology (art department) and the Music School in Tehran.

She has published a method for Kamancheh in two volumes “Dastour-e Kamancheh” and several articles such as “music and modernism”, “genius or devils”, “Kurdish dance, movements and themes”. … She has cooperated with many ensembles in concerts and recordings as soloist such as “Khorshid”, “Simorq”, “Neyestan”, “Iran national instrument orchestra”, “khonyagaran mehr”, “Chargan Quartet”, “mahtab”, “derang”, “zandvaf”… Also she has collaborated with remarkable musicians like Ahmad Pejman, Homayoun Shajarian, Farhad Fakhredini…

Her released Albums are: “Ayyaran”, “Simorq” “Zaman”, “Chargan”, “Fasle baran”, “Asemaneh”, “Az boudan o soroudan”, “Dastour Kamancheh” method in 3 cds, “Dar mohasereh”, “Hich magou”, “Suite for Qeychak and orchestra”, “Salnameh”.

Maryam Kodabakhsh:

Born in 1980 She earned B.A. from Fine Arts University of Tehran and M.A. from Tehran Art University both in oud Performance. She furthered her skills by participating in master classes of remarkable musicians such as mohammadreza ebrahimi, masou shaari, amir eslami, and sharif lotfi.

She has performed in Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France, Malaysia, Armenia, Tajikistan … with Iranian National Orchestra and different ensembles such as Mehrnavazan, Hamsaz, Taal, Soroushan, Sepid-o Siah, …

She has also performed with orlean’s string orchestra of France as the  soloest at unesco’s event in memory of Roudaki in 2007.

She has collaborated in numerous recordings such as : Attar, Horse and Fire, Fog Throughout, The Song of Glance …
